In general, follow your OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines.
It is recommended to check a coolant system at least thrice a year or 10,000 kilometers. If the coolant is dirty, cloudy, or full of particulate, then the coolant system should be drained, flushed, cleaned, and refilled with a fresh coolant. Also, the reason for the bad condition of the coolant should be determined.
Before mixing coolant it is necessary to check the compatibility of both the coolant. If the coolants are not compatible, they result in chemical instability which will affects the performance of the coolant and may corrode the engine coolant system.

The Coolant can be classified into any of these categories based on additives used.
